Destination: Dallas

{smile}

I am so friggin’ excited that we are spending the weekend in my favorite city!  Since this is my new blog, let me expand on the first post a tad.  After this, there will be no more mention of the move.  I promise.

I was born and raised in Dallas.  I lived there for the majority of my 33 years walking this earth, with the exception of my 6 year span in Denton for college.

I spent my single, post-college, 20-something years right, smack-dab in the middle of Dallas.  I have a lot of girlfriends there.  Tons of girlfriends. There is a great nostalgia to the city, for me.  I love  am obsessed with the shopping there.  The restaurants are fantastic.  It’s clean.   My mom and dad are there.  They have a Starbucks.  Several of them.  Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand it’s where I met my husband and we have several date-night spots there.

Let me explain further.

My husband’s family owns and operates a gear manufacturing company in a small RIDICULOUSLY small and backwoods, south Texas town, called Alice.  My husband is an engineer and back when we were dating, I knew it was a dream of his to work for his dad’s company and eventually take over.

I just didn’t realize it would happen in the prime of our lives, aka our 30′s.

Anyhoo.  Once he proposed {8.8.08} I agreed to make the southward move.

I moved with an open mind.

I have given it a year.

It has been horrible.  I hate this town.

Very few people utilize the internet.  Nobody works out.  The grocery store has limited options.  The weather is always hot and humid – it’s in the 90′s here people!  The locals shop at Beall’s … hey, not knockin’ it, but it’s no Nordstrom.  People are all up in your bizness.  Yep.  It’s one of those towns.  Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand since it’s a predominantly Hispanic town, they look at me like I’m from the moon.

Sorry to go on and on, but my life as a resident of Alice has been pretty trying.

Back to Dallas.

We are headed that direction, for the first time since our wedding, which was 8.8.09.  I cannot believe I have survived a full 2 months, sans Dallas.

Andrea & Chloe

I plan to chill with these two ladies – my bestie and her daughter, Chloe … both participants in my wedding.  We have a pedicure date set for tomorrow.  (Oh!  One more thing – the nail places in Alice suck blow big ballz.  They do a horrible job, because there is ZERO competition.)

We are also attending a couples shower for my friend, Priya, who is getting married at the end of November.  My husband “Aa” cannot believe that people actually get married during college football.  How dare them.

Then, on Sunday, we are headed to the State Fair of Texas for some corn dog ACTION with my friends and their husbands.

Then.  It will be back to Alice on Monday.

Luckily, Aa has agreed to moved to Corpus Christi after the new year.  CC is no Dallas by any means, but the city is lightyears ahead of Alice.  It will be a 40 minute commute to work, but at least we have access to Starbucks on a daily basis, if needed.

All in all, I have definitely sacraficed so that Aa can follow his dreams.  I know that we are better off here and when the time comes, I can be a stay-at-home mommy … something that probably wouldn’t have been possible, had we stayed in Dallas for ever and a day.

What sacrafices have you had to make for others?  How did you deal?

I’ve dealt by utilizing every possible form of communication to keep current with the lives of my friends and family … oh, and online shopping helps too!

Happy weekend all!

Cheers,

Ready. Set. Junk TV.

September 30, 2009

I I usually consider myself level headed.

I usually make good decisions.

My friends typically seek my advice.

My husband usually listens to me.

However.

Tuesday = The Hills + The City

I enjoyed every minute of it.

I know.  Far from quality television.

I am ecstatic that my favorite pieces junk television is back.

My week is now complete.

Ok, maybe that is a bit drastic, but I am thrilled to get reeled back into the drama of those 20-somethings, who have nothing better to do than shop, eat, drink, and steal each others’ boyfriends.

What’s your favorite piece of junk television?

Cheers!

Meet The Tagles

Meet The Tagles

Hello.

I’m Erin.  Welcome to my blog!  I’m a thirtysomething newlywed from Dallas, transplanted to a small South Texas town “Alice” with my husband Aaron.  Aaron is an Engineer, who took an opportunity to work for his dad’s company, hence The Move in October 2008.

The Move has been a bit difficult.

We are very ridiculously far away from our peeps {AND good restaurants + fun +  nightlife + great shopping + better, less humid climate}  in Dallas.  I was also faced with planning our Dallas wedding, from 400 miles away.  Let’s just say THANK GOODNESS FOR THE INTERNET.  Did I say that loud enough?

Anyhoo.  Now that the wedding is over {posts with pictures and details to come} we have several minutes, hours, days, and weeks on our hands.

Tonight’s hours = Tennis Lessons

Cheers!
